Imagine yourself witness to a night-time swim with the likes of Jeff Buckley, Radiohead, Muse and The Flaming Lips. It is out of this water where Midnight Swim arise to claim their place as one of the hottest acts on the Sydney music scene in years.
Strong live performers, Midnight Swim, crowned state winners of University Band Championships (2001), have shared the bill with the likes of Sarah Blasko, Evermore, Motor Ace, Speedstar Missy Higgins, and The Church.
Sean Carey (Vocals/Guitar), Michael Faber (Guitar/Vocals), Lee Carey (Drums) and Cameron Potts (Bass) have developed a unique and powerful sound, incorporating elements of heart-felt driven rock and spare evocative ballads with an indie-pop sensibility. Midnight Swim features Sean Carey of Thirsty Merc – whose profile continues to grow Midnight Swim’s fan base.
"Poised to take over Coldplay's position as seasoned ambience...these boys know how to weave introspective lyrics...I could conceive them to be the father of my lovechild." Vina V - Brag Magazine
Midnight Swim are proving to be rising stars on the Australian music scene with accolades including; Best Emerging Live Act NSW (ALMA Awards), Winners of The Garth Porter Producers Award (Musicoz); and Nominees for Best Pop song and APRA Songwriter of the year (Musicoz Awards). Extensive touring throughout Australia has seen the guys build a solid fan base across the east coast.
“The boys already have the rudiments in their hands of making a good song that will fit in that commercial pop/rock pigeonhole...it is a sign that these boys have a future.” Ross Clelland - The Drum Media
Regarding their current Ep 'The Greatest Phoney'; Sean Carey – Vocals/Guitar: “It’s a collection of songs that really just came to life very quickly, a lot of the tracks on the EP we have never really played as a band, we just rolled tape and everyone did their thing. There are a lot of different ideas on this EP it’s the biggest stretch we have done musically. We are all very proud of it and we can’t wait to take them on the road’
“...with taste and subtlety the unadorned ballad...builds almost imperceptibly into a towering, Pumpkins-style rock edifice ...closing track Lona, which frames Carey’s Buckley-esque falsetto in gorgeously forlorn, string assisted late night ambience.” Brett Collingwood - Rave Brisbane
Media support has included airplay on Triple J, Triple M and rotation airplay on FBI 94.5, alternative radio media NETFM, 2GLF and 2SSR. Midnight Swim has also a solid reputation with street press such as The Drum Media, The Brag, Time Off and Inpress Magazines.
